Phil Malone - Town Council
Born in Albany and raised in East Greenbush, Phil Malone has strong ties to East Greenbush. One of five children of Bill and Joan Malone, a local entrepreneur and former Tax Receiver of East Greenbush, respectively, he began working at his parents’ businesses and on their campaigns at an early age. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1997, and was actively involved in sports and student council.
With the help of part-time jobs and student loans, Phil worked his way through college, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Politics from SUNY Potsdam in 2002. During this time, he interned in the New York State Assembly. He also studied abroad, taking Spanish courses in Puebla, Mexico and commerce courses in Dublin, Ireland, and traveled extensively while living in Europe. In 2004, Phil moved to San Diego, California, to attend Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
After his education and travels, Phil moved back to East Greenbush and quickly worked to pursue his dream of a career in public service. He landed a job in the Rensselaer County Legislature as an aide to Minority Leader Ginny O’Brien, gaining insight into and a better understanding of the issues Rensselaer County residents faced. He was then asked to serve as Deputy Assessor for the Town of East Greenbush, in which he assisted taxpayers in filing grievances and exemptions, and held workshops to help better inform them of their rights as homeowners
In 2009, Phil went to work for the New York State Senate as an Analyst for the Agricultural Committee. In this capacity, he expanded his legislative knowledge drafting bills and working with constituents and lobbyists to solve the everyday concerns by New York residents. Phil has, and continues to be, an active member of the community and various organizations. He has served on the East Greenbush Zoning Board of Appeals, was an advisory member of the Rensselaer County Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness, and volunteers for the American Heart Association and PanCan.
